Maj. Gen. Stephen C. Williams will be assigned as Special Assistant to the Commander, Air Combat Command, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Maj. Gen. Williams is currently serving as Chief of Staff, U.S. Forces Korea, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, U.S. Army Garrison-Humphreys, Korea. Maj. Gen. Stephen C. Williams is the Chief of Staff, U.S. Forces Korea, USAG Humphreys, Korea. In this capacity, General Williams provides day-to-day direction to a joint U.S. staff of a sub-unified command and coordinates with component staffs, assisting the commander in management of U.S. Forces in Korea during Armistice and crisis. General Williams earned his commission from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1989 where he was the top graduate in engineering mechanics. He attended pilot training and was a distinguished graduate at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. A career F-16 pilot, General Williams commanded operational units at the squadron and wing levels. While deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom he earned the 2007 McKay Trophy for the most meritorious sortie of the year. General Williams also served as Director of Defense Cybersecurity in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy at the Pentagon and was the Commandant of Cadets, U.S. Air Force Academy. Prior to assuming his current position, General Williams served as the Director of Air and Cyberspace Operations, Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii. General Williams is a command pilot with more than 3,000 flying hours, including more than 260 combat hours earned during operations Southern Watch and Iraqi Freedom.
