Matthew J. Flynn

Matthew J. Flynn was recently named the new Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Counternarcotics and Global Threats. He succeeds Ezra Cohen-Watnick in the position. Mr. Flynn previously served as Deputy Assistant to the President and Acting White House Cabinet Secretary, where he was the primary liaison between the President and the Cabinet. Over his career, he has worked in various roles within the federal government, including positions at the Department of the Interior, the White House, the Department of State, the United States Senate and the United States House of Representatives. Mr. Flynn also currently serves as a Judge Advocate in the North Carolina Army National Guard. He holds a BA in Political Science from Michigan State University, a JD from Western Michigan Cooley Law School, a Master of Strategic Studies from the U.S. Army War College and is finishing a Master of Science and Technology Intelligence (MSTI) at the National Intelligence University.
