LtGen. Andrew P. Poppas

LtGen. Andrew P. Poppas was recently named Director of the Joint Staff for the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He succeeds former Acting Director, RAdm. William D. Byrne, Jr., who remains on staff as Vice Director of the Joint Staff. LtGen. Poppas graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and was commissioned in 1988. He has held numerous positions throughout his 32 years of service, including Deputy Commanding General (Operations), 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Commander, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Prior to his current position, LtGen. Poppas served as Director for Operations (J3), Joint Staff. He holds a B.S. in National Security Affairs from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and a M.S. in Occupational Education from Kansas State University.
