May 4, 2021: President Joseph Biden has announced his intention to nominate Roberto J. Rodriguez to be Assistant Secretary of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development at the U.S. Department of Education (DOE). Currently President and Chief Executive Officer of Teach Plus, Mr. Rodriguez has served as Deputy Assistant to President Barak Obama, as Senior Education Advisor and later Chief Counsel to Senator Edward N. Kennedy (D-MA), and as a Research and Policy Analysis Director for the National Council of La Raza. He earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Michigan and an Ed.M. at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Mr. Rodriguez will succeed former Assistant Secretary James Blew.
