John Tien has been confirmed to serve as Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security. He was confirmed in the Senate by a 60-34 vote. Tien served in the U.S. Army for nearly 25 years, retiring with the rank of Colonel. During the Clinton administration, he worked as an aide in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative as a White House Fellow. During the Obama administration, Tien was an advisor to the National Security Council on policy related to Afghanistan and Pakistan. Tien joined Citigroup in 2011, serving most recently as Managing Director of the Citigroup Regional Services Division in Atlanta. David Pekoske, who has been serving as acting DHS Deputy Secretary since early February, will return to the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) to resume his position as its top official. Pekoske became TSA Administrator following Senate confirmation in August 2017. He also served as acting DHS Deputy Secretary for seven months in 2019.
