May 28, 2021: President Joe Biden has announced his intent to nominate Jeffrey Prieto to be General Counsel of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Currently General Counsel for the Los Angeles Community College District, Mr. Prieto served at the U.S. Department of Agriculture in the Obama Administration as General Counsel, as Acting General Counsel, and as Principal Deputy General Counsel. At the U.S. Department of Justice he served as Counsel and then Deputy Executive Officer / General Counsel in the Environment and Natural Resources Division, and as a Trial Attorney. Mr. Prieto earned a JD at the University of California, Los Angeles, and an MPA in urban and regional planning at Princeton University’s Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Mr. Prieto will replace Acting General Counsel Melissa Hoffer.
