Denis McDonough

The U.S Senate has confirmed Denis McDonough as Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs. McDonough was previously Senior Advisor and Senior Principal to the Markle Foundation. From February 2013 until January 20, 2017, McDonough served as White House Chief of Staff for President Obama. Prior to assuming that role, he served as the Deputy National Security Advisor from October 2010 to January 2013. He also served as the Chief of Staff of the National Security Staff and as the Deputy National Security Advisor for Strategic Communications. McDonough graduated from St. John’s University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and has a master’s from Georgetown University.
