June 17, 2021: President Biden has announced his intent to nominate retired Commander Carlos Del Toro to be the Secretary of the Navy. Del Toro has nearly 40 years of experience in national security and naval operations, budgeting, and acquisition. For the past 17 years, Del Toro has been serving as the CEO and President of SBG Technology Solutions Inc. He served 22 years in the U.S. Navy, and has held critical appointments to include Senior Executive Assistant to the Director for Program Analysis and Evaluation in the Office of the Secretary of Defense, First Commanding Officer of the guided missile destroyer USS Bulkeley, and Special Assistant to the Director and Deputy Director of the Office of Management and Budget. Del Toro holds a B.S. from the U.S. Naval Academy, a M.S. from the Naval Postgraduate School, an M.A. from the Naval War College, and an M.P.S. from George Washington University. He was the first Hispanic President of the White House Fellows Foundation and Alumni Association and serves on the Board of Directors of the Stimson Center. He was recently appointed to the U.S. Naval Academy Alumni Association’s Special Commission on Culture, Diversity, and Inclusion. Del Toro was born in Havana, Cuba in 1961 and immigrated to the United States with his parents as a child.
