Carlos Monje

July 1, 2021: Carlos Monje has been confirmed as Under Secretary of Transportation for Transportation Policy. He joined the Department of Transportation in January 2021 and has served as Senior Advisor to Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Monje managed the review process for domestic agencies during the Biden-Harris Transition period. Monje previously served as acting Under Secretary and Assistant Secretary for Transportation Policy during the Obama administration, and was tasked with oversight for the implementation of surface transportation programs, discretionary grant programs and economic development. He also served in the Obama administration as Chief of Staff on the White House Domestic Policy Council and Special Assistant to the President. Monje’s family is from Argentina and he was born in the United States.
