Bryan Todd Newland

May 6, 2021: President Joseph Biden has announced his intent to nominate Bryan Todd Newland to be Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs at the U.S. Department of the Interior. Mr. Newland has served as Tribal Chairperson and Chief Judge for the Bay Mills Indian Community, as a Regent for Bay Mills Community College, as an Attorney for Feltcher Law, PLLC, and as Senior Policy Advisor to the Assistant Secretary for Indian Affairs at the Department of the Interior. He earned a BA in social relations at Michigan State University and a JD in Indian Law at Michigan State University College of Law. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Mr. Newland will succeed former Assistant Secretary Tara Sweeney.
